How This Project Came Together
This patio extension in Wichita Falls had to grow directly out from under an existing covered patio, which meant pouring right up against roof posts and a structure that couldn't be nudged, damaged, or worked around from a distance. The homeowner wanted more open, uncovered space to use alongside the covered area without any construction traffic touching the patio already in daily use.
The crew graded and formed the new section working carefully around the covered patio's posts and edge, placed reinforcement, and poured the extension to a smooth, level finish. Photos taken from ground level and from above during the pour show the new section growing directly out of the covered patio's footprint rather than sitting off to the side as its own separate pad.
Challenge
Pouring concrete directly against a structure that stays in place — posts, footings, roofline — leaves far less room to maneuver forms and equipment than an open backyard pour would, and any damage to the existing patio during the work becomes an extra repair on top of the new pour itself. The finish also had to read as a natural continuation of the covered patio's surface rather than a visibly separate slab parked next to it.
Solution
The crew hand-formed and hand-finished the tight areas around the covered patio's posts instead of relying on equipment that needed more clearance, working carefully enough that the existing structure needed no repair once the new pour cured. The finishing crew floated the new section to match the covered patio's surface texture so the transition between old and new stayed smooth underfoot.
